Convert HEIC to JPEG on iPhone, Mac, and Windows
A short, OS-by-OS guide for turning iPhone HEIC images into shareable JPEG — and what happens to quality and GPS metadata along the way.
Try it in your browser (no install)
If you prefer OS-native tools only, follow the steps below.
On the iPhone
- Open the photo in the Photos app.
- Tap the share icon (top-right ellipsis).
- Save to Files; the save dialog re-encodes to JPEG automatically.
- For all future shots to be JPEG from the start, go to Settings > Camera > Formats > Most Compatible.
Mac Preview
- Double-click the HEIC to open it in Preview.
- File > Export...
- Set format to JPEG and save.
Windows
- Install the free HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store.
- Open the HEIC in Photos.
- More (...) > Save as > pick
.jpg.
GPS metadata
- Some converters keep the original EXIF GPS tags.
- Strip them before posting online — see the JPEG reference for platform-specific instructions.
