Export and import contacts as vCard (.vcf)

Walk through vCard exchange across iPhone, Android, Outlook, and Google Contacts — including batch exports.

iPhone

  1. Open the Contacts app and pick a contact.
  2. Tap Share Contact > AirDrop / Mail.
  3. The resulting file is .vcf.

Android (Google Contacts)

  1. Go to contacts.google.com.
  2. Select the contact(s) > Export > vCard.
  3. For full exports, use the sidebar's Export.

Outlook

  1. Contacts view > File > Save As.
  2. Format: vCard File.

Import gotchas

  • Photos and group membership don't always round-trip cleanly between iPhone and Android.
  • Split very large imports into batches of ~50 contacts to minimise failures.
  • Use UTF-8 everywhere — Shift_JIS exports for legacy phones breed mojibake.
